Our energy management

REDUCING WATER CONSUMPTION

Water is an essential resource for manufacturing our ingredients. Preserving it is then a priority, therefore we have put in place an anti-waste approach to water consumption, including: recycling of lost water from one of our major processes, leak detection system with weekly meter readings and immediate corrective action. Furthermore,  installation of shut-off valves on our cleaning pipes enabled us to implement a double safety system.

In addition to all these actions, optimization of our cleaning processes allowed us to stabilize our water consumption between 2019 and 2020, despite a 25% increase in production!

New actions have been launched to further improve our performance in this area.

REDUCING GAS AND ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION

Each time a replacement need happens, we put LED lighting instead of fluorescent lighting. Common areas are equipped with presence detectors.

Taking into account our customers’ projected needs, we also optimize our production planning by increasing the number of production runs.

These actions have a direct impact on our gas and electricity consumption. With a 25% production volumes increase in 2020, our gas consumption has risen by only 13%, and electricity by only 9%.

PURCHASE OF GREEN ELECTRICITY

Herbal T purchases a guaranteed origin 100% green electricity. The energy is produced from renewable energy sources or from highly energy-efficient cogeneration.

TRANSPORT

Our business requires exchanges with the transport industry on a daily basis. Since our creation in 2009, we have entrusted the transport of our deliveries to a local and responsible carrier. As member of an eco-citizen network, it is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by signing the CO² charter.

Managing a fleet of engines meeting the latest standards, eco-driving training, daily monitoring of consumption (in 2019, -11% of consumption per 100 km), optimization of routes to reduce empty runs, dialogue and exchanges with all employees…, have enabled this partner to obtain the ECOVADIS* Gold assessment in 2019 (*quality of CSR management system).

In addition, the MOV’ICI system has been deployed at the Naturopôle Nutrition Santé to encourage carpooling. This is a participative platform on which staff from different companies in the area can exchange their respective availabilities and thus reduce their commuting costs.
